JAMES A. FAWCETT 
James Fawcett is the 44th president of Lambda Alpha International. He was inducted into the Los Angeles Chapter in 1988, served as president of the chapter from 1995-97 and has been a member of Lambda Alpha’s International Board of Governors since 1995.
Dr. Fawcett is the Director of Marine Science and Policy Outreach for the Sea Grant Program at the University of Southern California and is an adjunct faculty member of USC’s School of Policy, Planning and Development. He specializes coastal management and seaport policy issues; his research is focused on intensive uses and use conflicts over coastal resources. Joining the university in 1977, he took a ten-year professional hiatus to serve as the Chief of Planning for the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors with responsibility for Marina del Rey and the 40 miles of Los Angeles County beaches, returning to the university in 2002.
With an extensive teaching background in real estate, public administration and urban planning, he holds an undergraduate degree in political science and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in urban planning. He and his wife, Nancy, a psychotherapist, and live on the Westside of Los Angeles.
