Professor Julio Cesar Perez Hernandez from Havana, Cuba spoke to a packed room of Ely Chapter members and guests at the monthly luncheon on May 25, 2010. He is an architect, urban designer and planner who designs homes, public buildings and plans new communities. His presentation included historic and contemporary photos and illustrations that provided the context for the City's variety of architectural styles. He also showed images from the comprehensive plan for Havana that preserves the City's architectural heritage while integrating new development along the waterfront. The plan was not commissioned by the government, but was created by Professor Hernandez and other professionals who want to guide development in a city that recently has not done much planning.
