to be held May 1-4, 2003 in San Diego.
Highlights of the Weekend include four-star hotel accommodations
at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, private motor coach tours of San
Diego, including La Jolla, the Salk Institute, Scripps Institute
of Oceanography and the Burnham Institute, San Diego Zoo Twilight

Julius S. Levine and Douglas R. Porter, President
of Growth Management were inducted into the College of Fellows of
the American Planning Association during APA's National Conference
March 29, 2003 in Denver.
Golden Gate Chapter
Helen Sause, after many years with the San Francisco
Redevelopment Agency, has retired. She will continue her NAHRO committee
work, participate in Lambda Alpha, SPUR and the Development Fund.

Robert Bruegmann, Chairperson, Art History and Professor
in Department of Art History, School of Architecture, Program in Urban
Planning, University of Illinois at Chicago will be the featured speaker
April 16th at noon in Chicago on "Sprawl and the Fate of the
Inner City." Dr. Bruegmann has recently published a book questioning
much of the conventional planning thinking on suburban sprawl. For

Featured Book of the Month:
David B. Glancey, President of the Philadelphia Chapter,
wrote the chapter entitled, "P.I.L.O.T.s [payments in lieu of
taxes] - The Pennsylvania Story": in the book: Property-Tax Exemption
for Charities : Mapping the Battlefield
David Glancey will be attending the San Diego Weekend Experience
if you would like to meet him.
In
Memoriam:
Former Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan died
on March 26, 2003.
Senator Moynihan was awarded LAI's International Urban Affairs Award
at the 1997 Biennial Congress in Memphis. As a citizen and government
official, Senator Moynihan played a leading role in the revitalization
of Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. and the conservation of
important Washington landmarks including the National Building Museum,
the Old Post Office Building and Daniel Burnham's Union Station. Throughout
his professional and political career he provided continuing support
of urban affairs, architecture and urban planning.
