Uwe Brandes from Georgetown University will discuss The Place Leadership Project (PLP), a community-based participatory research initiative that has identified over 50 dedicated place management organizations in the National Capital Region. Several of these organizations are globally significant innovators whose mission is tied to a dedicated geographic district within the metropolitan landscape.  “Place” has become a strategic organizing principle for stakeholders to plan, develop, invest, curate and empower communities in cities.  Place management organizations include Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), Main Street and Downtown associations, and economic development and tourism organizations, among others.  PLP advances a community of professional practice which embraces the innovative position of the Washington, D.C. region as an international leader in place management and performance-based urban sustainability.
