Resilient, livable, sustainable, even restorative – a well-executed project of almost any size can flourish itself and enhance the health and prosperity of its neighbourhood: it can build community. That’s the biggest takeaway from the new book, Building Community: Defining, Designing, Developing UniverCity. This is the story of a brand-new, award-winning and highly sustainable community: UniverCity, on Burnaby Mountain in Metro Vancouver, was built from scratch in barely 15 years.

Author Gordon Harris, President and CEO of UniverCity’s developer, SFU Community Trust, will share insights from that process, describing how developers, planners, public officials and community leaders – working in greenfields or infill sites – can make a big impact with a small footprint.
