Healthy Market for Hospital Construction

Angela Gonzales - Moderator
Phoenix Business Journal

Angela Gonzales is senior reporter at the Phoenix Business Journal, where she will celebrate her 36th anniversary in September.

Born and raised in Colorado, Angela graduated summa cum laude from Colorado State University, where she majored in technical journalism and minored in music and Spanish.
Angela has won numerous journalism and community service awards over the years.

She has been covering the business of health care for about 35 years at the Phoenix Business Journal, adding education and biotech along the way. In 2018, residential real estate was added to her beat.

When her three children were in school, she served as president of the parent teacher organization of their schools as well as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout leader — a few years all at the same time.

In her spare time, Angela enjoys singing. She has been singing in choirs since elementary school through college and now enjoys singing at church, where she cantors weddings, funerals and Sunday Masses at Ss Simon and Jude Cathedral in Phoenix. She also was recently named coordinator of Hispanic sacred music at the Cathedral, where she is building a volunteer Spanish choir.

Now that the children have grown and moved into their own homes, she and her husband Peter are empty nesters. Their home is now a respite for any stray cat who comes along.

Phil Glenn, DBIA
Kitchell

Phil Glenn is a Project Director for Kitchell Contractors where he is overseeing the construction of the largest public teaching hospital in Arizona at Valleywise Health. The Valleywise projects center around a new replacement hospital and all necessary supporting functions on campus. The scope includes extensive make ready work, new central plant and utility distribution, a 106,000 SF 6-story support building, and the new 678,000 SF 10-story acute care hospital tower.

Phil has been in the industry for 21 years and has been involved in complex healthcare construction projects for his entire career. He is a lean culture leader within Kitchell and the greater industry. His breadth of experience includes Design-Build, Integrated Project Delivery and CM at Risk delivery models with Valleywise Health, CommonSpirit (Dignity Health), and Banner Health.

When not building projects that represent the skyline of the Southwest and West Coast, he is very active with his family and children. He is an avid runner and outdoorsman – camping and fishing as often as possible. Phil is also passionate about cooking and tries new recipes for his family all the time.
