GATEWAY TO THE NEW RESTON
How New Developments at Reston Station and Reston Row are Redefining the Suburbs

Bolstered by the Experience Economy, there is increased desire to live, work, play, stay, and heal in connected, socially enriching environments. What we are experiencing today is an acceleration of trends that were already in play for decades that are influencing a new kind of reimagining of the suburbs that will continue to contribute to the attraction of second tier cities and suburban locations proximate to urban centers as magnets for vibrant mixed-use environments.

The opening of the new Silver Line branch of the DC Metrorail and the completion of the Wiehle-Reston East Station offered a unique opportunity to create a new mixed-use, transit-oriented development that broke the suburban mold and provides a rich community for people that live, work, and play. One that re-imagines a neighborhood that will attract top-tier tenants, cultivates a true sense of community, promotes health and wellbeing, and responds to the influence of rapid technological innovation.

Originally conceived by Robert Simon in 1962, the town of Reston was decades ahead of its time in promoting a walkable, sustainable, and inclusive model for city planning. Reston Metro Plaza and Reston Row build on the legacy Robert Simon started some 60 years ago, with an integrated design that aligns with post-pandemic changes in workplace and living paradigms, promoting a vibrant high-density walkable environment while bolstering the economic vitality of a new Reston that focuses on people, natural systems, and a responsible use of resources.
