Ely Chapter Luncheon: Food Hubs and Urban Farming

How is the Chicago-region developing distribution systems designed to move locally produced food into mainstream markets? What policy or planning efforts are in place to promote urban farming? A panel discussion with academics, practitioners and policy advocates for local, resilient and progressive food delivery and growth.



Lynsey Sorrell, Principal of Perimeter Architects


Molly Meyer, CEO & Founder of Omni Ecosystems and Co-Founder & Co-Manager of The Roof Crop, LLC.

Omni Ecosystems creates living infrastructure, bringing nature to the built environment via green roofs, green walls, landscape architecture, urban agriculture, clean growing media for contaminated sites, and more. The Roof Crop leases and operates rooftop farms, it is a truly maintenance-free green roof that pays for itself.



Howard Rosing, Executive Director of the Steans Center at DePaul University.

Faculty member in Community Service Studies and affiliate faculty member in Geography, Sustainable Urban Development. Dr. Rosing is a cultural anthropologist whose research focuses on urban food access, economic restructuring, community food systems, and food justice movements in Chicago and the Dominican Republic.


Leland Strom, Executive Director of FARM Illinois.

The Food and Agriculture RoadMap for Illinois (FARM Illinois) was established in 2014 to develop a comprehensive strategic plan to enable Illinois and the Chicago region to become the leading global hub for food and agriculture system innovation and ensure their leadership in sustainably meeting the 21st-century challenge of global and local food security.
