LAI San Diego Accepting Applications for 2024 Scholarship

LAI San Diego Accepting Applications for 2024 Scholarship

San Diego, CA, January 10, 2024 – The San Diego chapter of Lambda Alpha International (LAI) is now accepting applications for its 2024 scholarship program. Each year, LAI San Diego selects one student studying land use economics to receive a $2,500 scholarship. Additionally, the individual is invited to offer a research presentation to LAI. The student receives valuable experience while their research advances the meaningful exchange of ideas regarding development issues among LAI members.

Jon Schmid, LAI San Diego’s 2023 President, states, “The LAI scholarship recipient is provided a one-of-a-kind opportunity to help shape the conversation around land use in San Diego. They are invited to present their research and ideas to key stakeholders, influencers, and decision-makers. Having that kind of platform often takes decades to earn.”

Nick Baldwin: 2023 Scholarship Recipient
LAI’s past scholarship recipients have been talented individuals with highly promising futures. LAI’s 2023 recipient, Nick Baldwin, is pursuing his Master of Science in Real Estate from the University of San Diego. He is currently a Program Coordinator with the City of San Diego’s Department of Real Estate and Airport Management. For LAI, Nick presented his research on California’s housing legislation and its impact on San Diego. His report covered housing opportunities on land zoned residential (SB 9 and SB 10) and commercial (SB 6 and AB 2011).

Nick Baldwin states, “There is a perception that California isn’t doing much to address its housing affordability crisis. We are addressing the issue; it’s just that we’re so far behind. California ranks 48th out of 50 states for housing units per capita.” He continues, “San Diego, in particular, is doing the right things. It has the lowest net migration of all California’s major cities, and second lowest on the West Coast.” His full report can be found online here.

LAI San Diego’s 2024 Scholarship Program
LAI San Diego will be accepting applications for its 2024 scholarship program through February 2024.
